Drinking water disinfection

The disinfection of drinking water is the first application of UV technology. UVGERMI develops UV units for disinfection needs in high flow rates and in average flows. They are intended for drinking water production plants, establishments open to the public (hotels, campsites, holiday centres, etc.), rental flats and individuals in France, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and all over the world.

Pros of UVGERMI ACS reactors

  • An effective environmentally friendly process in addition to chlorine
  • Low energy consumption using low pressure UV lamps
  • Reduced maintenance cost for lamp replacement and sleeve cleaning
  • Easy operation with the simplified control cabinet
  • Additional or tailored options and equipment

Treatment of water intended for human consumption:

  • According to the general code of local authorities (article L.2224-7-1): “Municipalities are responsible for the distribution of drinking water”. It is therefore their duty to ensure water is drinkable and secure the distribution network for the water intended for human consumption. Before being able to consume the water out of the tap, there is a number of mandatory and supervised stages. Water disinfection is one of these stages.

  • Water can contain a large number of harmless microorganisms and others that can cause diseases such as faecal streptococci, Giardia lamblia, or Cryptospridium parvum, etc. For water to be considered bacteriologically “potable”, it must treated and all harmful bacteria must be removed.

  • The most traditional solution for producing drinking water is the use of chlorine which is considered to be highly effective. On the other hand, it leads to the production of disinfection by-products which can modify the organoleptic qualities of the water. In other words, these by-products can modify the taste, smell, appearance, colour or consistency of the water. Furthermore, chlorination is insufficient to destroy certain pathogenic microorganisms.

  • UV radiation technology is an effective and natural response to water treatment. It destroys pathogenic bacteria without modifying the water’s organoleptic qualities. The germicidal efficiency of UV reactors depends on the following: water quality, flow rate, UV dose delivered and contact time of the water in the reactor.

  • To meet the treatment requirements for the production of water suitable for human consumption with high flow rates, we offer a range of 10 low pressure UV reactors which can treat water flows between 3 and 1,000 m3/h. They are all fitted with an ACS UV in accordance with Decree of October 09, 2012 and are certified ONÖRM and DVGW 294 W which are valid worldwide.

Securing water from networks, wells, boreholes and extraction points - average flow

  • With regards to drinking water, local authorities are not required to connect premises that are not located in an area served by the drinking water network. A hamlet with several dwellings which is far from a main town may not necessarily be connected to the drinking water network. For their drinking water supply, many households must ensure raw water from a well, a borehole or any other intake is safe and disinfected.

  • Our UV disinfection process can be used for treating water from a borehole, water supply or water from a well contaminated with bacteria. It must be noted that UVs have no effect on the water’s chemical composition. To guarantee the water is potable from a bacteriological point of view, it must first be chemically potable before treatment.

  • To meet the need for treatment of water for human consumption in private homes, we have developed a range of UV reactors suitable for medium flow rates ranging from 800 l/h to 23 m3/h. These units are easily installed on the main water supply line. With regard to the quality of the water, some units in our range include a water filtration or double filtration option before UV disinfection. Bacteria and viruses disappear without adding chemicals.
