Find out more about the UVGERMI Research and Innovation Centre

Fundamental research applied to UV technology

Founded in 2018, our Research and Innovation Centre is located in the Saint-Viance warehouses. It includes a team of researchers, engineers and technicians entirely dedicated to the design of new applications based on UV technology. The Research and Innovation Centre covers a surface area of 400 m² equipped with the most recent testing and design equipment.

Fundamental research is applied in the following fields: water treatment, air treatment, heat science, electronic engineering and connected devices (IOT). It helps constantly improve our range of UV reactors.

MEASUREMENTS
  • UV transmittance and irradiance,
  • Current, voltage, electrical power,
  • Air velocity,
  • Noise,
  • Flow rates and head loss,
  • Fluid temperatures.
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
  • Using the HACH Method to identify and quantify chemical components
MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSES
  • Analyses carried out in partnership with an independent laboratory
TEST BENCH CHARACTERISATIONS
  • Aeraulics according to NF EN ISO 5801,
  • Hydraulics,
  • Air velocity,
  • Pollutant reduction by UV radiation and advanced oxidation.
DESIGN
  • CAD tools,
  • Numerical simulation of fluid mechanics,
  • Air velocity,
  • Simulation of internal and external flows,
  • Calculation of UV doses.

Experimental development

The Research and Innovation Center is also constantly working to develop specific solutions experimentally. Our team, whose working method is recognised by manufacturers, is available to work with companies to find specific depollution solutions in air, water and surface treatment.

For example, the research project may relate to the removal of biological and chemical pollutants in a fluid, to the purification of indoor air in public transport or to the decontamination of sensitive surfaces. There are four stages to the research for a specific solution: understanding and collecting the needs, preliminary study and lab testing, preliminary costing, prototype design.

UNDERSTANDING AND COLLECTING THE NEEDS
  • Analysing the needs,
  • Defining target pollutants and desired reduction,
  • Analysing physical constraints related to the installations.
PRELIMINARY STUDY AND LAB TESTING
  • Receiving the samples in the laboratory (fluids),
  • Carrying out laboratory and pilot tests,
  • Determining the required UV dose.
PRELIMINARY COSTING
  • Preliminary costing of the required equipment for disinfection,
  • Taking into account specific constraints,
  • Defining budget.
PROTOTYPE DESIGN
  • Transmitting technical information to the Design Office to design the pilot,
  • Custom manufacturing and installing the pilot on site,
  • Verifying the results Comparing with laboratory tests.
